this is the greatest thing ever
I think the only real way to get better at drawing and get work done is committing to little rituals. Draw every day, keep a sketchbook around, — even if you just draw lines, it’s still better than not holding a pen at all. Copy from pictures, copy other people’s drawings, copy from the mirror, from outside the window, do stuff that you think is fun.
For me personally, the best ritual to learn how to draw with was doing comics. It creates a little system that helps point out things you can and can’t draw, it helps you think in story, it forces you to think about environments.
An anatomy study is always just going to be a dead thing, no matter how well drawn. A comic is a living world where things happen, even if it’s horribly drawn. I’m saying this because it’s addicting to make up people and places and have them interact and it helps take away the focus from fearing the empty page and bad drawings — and the more you do it (while consciously pushing yourself and yeah, studying) the better your drawings will eventually get.
Here it is, giant post about freelancing, under a cut because it’s super long. Enjoy if possible!
This is a VERY informative and helpful look at the other side of freelancing! Take note, if you’re thinking of getting into commission work. (:
this video is entitled “tumblr feminists” and i prepared myself to get angry before watching it but damn if it isn’t spot on
"What they are really saying is that they hate women. They hate women with opinions who are honest and angry."
I had the pleasure of boarding for SU with the incomparable Lamar Abrams. Tune in Monday!
Also hello tumblr!
He’s just mad because he can’t acquire all the apple juice that I’m acquiring. (x)
